A Gellért-hegyi Sziklatemplom kettős tagolású, egy ősi barlangból, aSzent Iván-barlangból és egy mesterséges sziklaüregből áll.

A sziklatemplom tervei Lux Kálmánnak köszönhetőek azt követően, hogy az 1920-as évek közepén egy pálos zarándokcsoport a dél-francia Lourdesban járt, és az ottani sziklaépítményekből merített ihletet.

Az 1950-es évek eseményei e templom működését is évekre befagyasztották, a szerzeteseket kivégezték vagy börtönbe zárták, bejáratát méteres betonfallal zárták el.

A templomot csak a rendszerváltás tudta megnyitni újra 1989-ben, ismételt felszentelése és az otromba betonfal elbontása 1992-ben történt meg. Jelenleg a sziklatemplom nem csak fontos műemlék de természetvédelmi terület is és itt őrzik a pálos rend talán legértékesebb ereklyéjét, Szent Pál apostol lábszárcsontját.
